Easy as 1, 2, 3… 3 simple steps to clean your Zincalume Louvre Awning the right way!

Keeping your zincalume louvre awnings clean is an easy 3 step process. Keeping them clean demonstrates that you care about and maintain your home or business. Awnings are constantly exposed to rain, wind (plus dust), sun and more – the accumulating effect of which can be damaging. If your awnings are dirty or deteriorating then it can look unprofessional and leave visitors with a negative impression. The good news is that you just need to follow these three simple steps every so often to keep them looking like new.

You might be asking, “What is zincalume?” This is the specially imported material that we at King Brands use to manufacture our adjustable louvre awnings. It was “developed after extensive research into improving the traditional performance of galvanised steel. By blending aluminium with zinc in an alloy coating, researchers discovered a way to greatly enhance corrosion resistance.” Certainly one of its advantages is that it requires low maintenance and is easy to clean.

3 simple steps to clean zincalume louvre awnings

Step 1: A little light dusting

Get stuck into removing any dirt and grime on your awnings by using either a broom, feather duster or vacuum cleaner. Remove excess dust, spider webs and built up dirt by giving your louvre awning a light dusting, making sure to remove as much surface dust and grime as you can. If your awning is very dirty and neglected, leaves that have “stuck” to the awning may need a little extra brush to remove. Be careful not to scratch or bend any of the louvres.

Step 2: A little H20 goes a long way

If you have one, use a high-pressure hose, or a standard hose will work, to hose down every nook and cranny of the awning. Don’t use more water than you need to here though – this is just to help loosen the more stubborn dirt and grime. Once you’ve given your awnings a hose down, use some soapy water and a soft sponge to give your awnings a good wash. Start at the bottom and work your way up the awnings to prevent streaking. The amount of detergent and the scrubbing attachment (if any) that you use will depend on the build of dirt that you need to wash away. Avoid using any harsh chemical detergents as they can damage the surface.

Step 3: Rinse and repeat

Once you’ve put in a bit of elbow grease, you can have some fun again with the high-pressure hose. Rinse all the soap away and say goodbye to the dirt and grime. You may need to repeat steps 2 and 3 if you missed a spot. Then you simply have to lie back in your favourite chair, enjoy the outdoors and take in the view while your louvre awning dries in the sun.

It’s that easy to maintain and clean your zincalume louvre awnings!
